The Four Corners Pride Festival of 2011 is in the books, and what a week it was! We started off with a full house at our free movie night and celebrated New York's passage of gay marriage at our Pride Pre-Party at the Starlight Lounge. Saturday's main event drew 1,000+ locals and visitors from throughout the Four Corners with live music, performances, and speakers. Our booth and food vendors enjoyed great support from attendees and the beer garden was the place to see and be seen, despite the heat. Sunday morning brunch on the patio at the Lost Dog was the perfect, leisurely end to a memorable week. What new events will we add next year?
Community sponsors came out in force in 2011! With money, our rural Pride Festival can grow each year, so please take note of our sponsors and support them.
Finally, an event this size could not happen without a dedicated, motivated, positive group of leaders. Greg Weiss, Paula Kopp, Diane Brandt, Andrea Rossi, Sage Grey, John Buchanan, Sallie Collom, Sarah Gleason, Bobby Hayes, Carl Smith, Sam Bainter, and Rhonda Eppard showed their true pride over the last five months by collaborating to make our Four Corners Pride Festival the huge success it was. I was honored to be a part of this team and we thank the many volunteers who help us make it all happen.
So, until next year, stay involved in local LGBTQ community activities, come out if you can, and celebrate Pride every day. We have a lot to be proud of.
